Owen City Council Awards Street Project at their Recent Meeting

-The Owen City Council awarded a street project at their meeting last week.The council approved awarding McCabe Construction the 10th Street Project as recommended by Cedar Corp. They also approved amending Cedar Corp up to $4,500 for the Wetland Delineation report needed for the 10th Street Project not in their contract. They also heard some reports on conferences and training attended by city officials and attendance at a conference was tabled until their first September meeting. The council heard an update from the city’s Police Commission. A vice-chairperson was elected and some minor changes were made to the Police Contract to coincide with State Statutes. The commission is offering Jesus Ibarra the Police Chief position for $25 per hour with evaluation in 6 months and probable raise at that time. The commission is also recommending the City of Owen deposit $20,000 in the commission’s joint checking account with the city at Forward Financial Bank.
The board also approved several ordinances including to repeal conflicting provisions due to creation of the OW Police Commission; Public Deposits exceeding insurance; Public Contracts, Competitive Bidding and Donated Improvements; notifications for Special Meeting of the Common Council; Social Host Responsibility; and Excessive Parking Violations. Finally, the council also approved the contract for the Comprehensive Planning Grant and approved Tim and Karen Swiggum to attend the America in Bloom Symposium in Lexington, KY, with Tim paying his own mileage.
