Sentencing Date Set for Neillsville Man Facing Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle Charges

Monday, June 21st, 2021 -- 12:01 PM

A plea and sentencing hearing has been set for a Humbird man involved in a two vehicle accident that resulted in the deaths of two Neillsville women.

Back in December of 2017, Trenton Bemis was driving in the Town of Pine Valley after bowling with friends that night.  His truck crossed the center line and collided with another vehicle killing two Neillsville women.

The women, both single mothers, were 29-year-old Michelle Kunze and 35-year-old Genie Carrillo.  Arresting officers said Bemis’ BAC was 4 times the legal limit at the time of the crash.

Bemis is facing two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, two counts of homicide by use of a vehicle with a PAC, and two counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle.

A jury trial was initially scheduled for Bemis in April of 2021, but after appearing in court in December of 2020, the trial was moved to January 24th of 2022.  That date is still on the calendar, but now a plea and sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Bemis on October 27th of this year.
