Lightning Causes House Fire Near Marshfield

-Lightning caused a fire at a rural Marshfield home on Monday.According to the fire department, the fire occurred just after 5:30am on Monday right after a bolt of lightning struck a tree about 12 feet from the home. An occupant of the home walked around the house after the lightning struck, but saw no damage and returned to bed. Then she smelled the smoke from the fire.
At least half the home was damaged in the fire. The fire department reminds everyone to make sure you have functioning smoke detectors with working batteries.
