-A Pittsville school bus driver charged with repeated sexual assault of a child appeared in Wood County Court on Thursday.According to court records, in October of 2015, a 14-year-old high school freshman left her cell phone on the school bus. 46-year-old Scott Thiel, the bus driver, returned the phone to her, but had added his contact information to it. He began texting her and asking her about her body. He would also have her sit behind him on the bus so he could inappropriately touch her. The girl told investigator that she and Thiel had intercourse multiple times at several different locations including the transportation building in Pittsville, the school bus, a tavern Thiel owned and his home. Thiel also asked the girl to send nude photos to him and he sent inappropriate photos to her. The girl said her encounters with Thiel lasted until just before Christmas of last year.
After his arrest, Thiel stated that the girl would sit behind him and he said he hugged her a few times, but that was it. During his plea hearing on Thursday, Thiel was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, child enticement/sexual contact and sexual assault of a child by a person who works with children. Two other charges were dismissed and read in. Theil will be back in court on October 15th for sentencing.
