-On August 9th, the Black River Memorial Hospital hosted The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services Secretary Laura Gutierrez and Sarah Bradley, the Deputy Director of the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, for a professional forum.More than 20 representatives from hospitals, clinics, Jackson County law enforcement, medical examiners and county service providers attended the forum. An overview of the drug monitoring program and its role in combating the misuse of prescription medication was provided. Representatives were able to ask questions and provide feedback on the program. The drug monitoring program allows healthcare professionals and law enforcement to better track and manage the prescribing of controlled substances.
According to the PDMP, opioid prescriptions have decreased by 10% in the last year. But there is still work to do as overdose visits to hospitals have tripled since 2010. “This forum is another way BRMH is working with community partners in the fight against the opioid epidemic,” stated Mary Beth White-Jacobs, CEO for BRMH.
