Follow the Law and Use Common Sense Near Train Tracks

Tuesday, July 31st, 2018 -- 11:06 AM

-In light of the pedestrian killed by a passing train in Marshfield, the Marshfield Police Department reminds everyone to follow the law and use common sense near train tracks.

On Saturday, the department received a call about a man hit by a train at the 100 block of North Central Avenue. The department said 34-year-old Anthony Carolfi and a woman cleared the train tracks when they crossed, but of them dropped something. Carolfi went to retrieve it when he was hit by the train. The train arms were activated and functioning at the time of the accident and the train horn had been sounded. It is illegal to cross train tracks on foot at an area other than a marked crosswalk. It's considered trespassing on railroad property.

Carolfi’s death is the 4th pedestrian death on Marshfield’s train tracks since July of 2013. The city has seen an increase in the number of trains through Marshfield and they continue to work with city enginners, the street department and the Canadian National Railway to make sure the legal railroad crossings are clearly marked and well-lit.
