Marshfield Senior Using Eagle Scout Project to Provide Sight
Monday, July 23rd, 2018 -- 8:56 AM
(WDLB) -A Marshfield senior is using his Eagle Scout project to provide sight.Suhaas Bhat is a member of local troop 392, and in order to gain the rank of Eagle Scout, he must plan, develop, and provide leadership to a service project. Suhaas is using this opportunity to create a city-wide drive to collect eyeglasses for developing countries that may not have access to prescription eyewear. Bhat says the issue is important to him, because he's worn glasses since he was in first grade, and without them, he would be functionally blind, and unable to perform even the most basic tasks. He says a life out of focus is a reality for many people in developing countries.
Suhaas is now working with the Lions' Club to get unused glasses into the hands of those who will benefit. The glasses that Bhat collects will go to the Wisconsin Lions Foundation Eyeglass Recycling Center in Rosholt, and from there, the Lions Club distributes the glasses to people in need, generally in developing countries. Bhat's drive will kick off this weekend at the Farmers Market at Festival Foods, and at the following week's market on August 4th and 5th. Suhaas has created a Facebook page for updates. Follow the Troop 392 glasses page for more information.
