-One person was arrested as a result of a chase initiated in the city of Spencer and ending in the city of Greenwood.Around 6:15pm on Monday July 16th, a Spencer Officer entered Clark County attempting to stop a white pick-up truck. The fleeing vehicle traveled west on 153 Road, turned north on County Highway K and then west on County Highway N. A Clark County Squad car meet the truck and followed behind it as it turned south on Highway 73. The pickup truck ran over spike strips on 73 by Cloverdale Road and again as it entered the city of Greenwood. The pickup slowed down as it went through Greenwood and eventually stopped on 73 by Cannery Street. The operator, 49-year-old Kyle Wendt, refused to exit the vehicle and appeared to be reaching for something on the passenger seat. When Wendt refused to exit the vehicle and listen to the officers, a Taser was used.
Officers then assisted Wendt out of the vehicle and to the ground where he continued to resist arrest. After several minutes Wendt was placed in handcuffs and put in the back seat of a squad car. Wendt was cited for Fleeing, Operating after Suspension, Operating Left of Center, Resisting or Obstructing Officers and Battery to Officers. It’s believed the Spencer Police Department will forward charges of OWI 5th Offense to the Marathon County District Attorney’s Office as well. Wendt was the only person in the pickup truck. The Spencer and Greenwood Police Departments were involved it the chase as well as the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
