Owen-Withee School Board Hears Administrators' Reports

-The Owen-Withee School Board heard the Administrators’ Reports at their meeting last week.Elementary Principal Lance Batchelor gave a wrap up of the three weeks of summer school that was run in June. The summer school coincided with summer swim lessons for all three weeks this year. Kudos and thanks to the teachers, aides, food service, support staff and bus drivers who made the three week session a success. Thanks to Forward Financial for their generous $10,000 donation to the elementary playground. The funds will be used for new swings and other playground equipment.
Jr/Sr High School Dean of Students Julie Van Ark reported that football practice is slated to start on August 1st, with volleyball and cross country to follow on August 13th. The PLC team and Mrs. Van Ark will attend the First Conference in Fond du Lac August 1st-3rd, establishing school goals for the 2018-19 school year. A group of teachers will meet on July 23rd to work on an elective rotation for the sixth grade students should they become part of the junior high.
District Administrator Bob Houts reported on the preliminary aid report put out by the DPI that shows the district could receive 1.18% less general state aid than they did last year. That translates to a loss of about $36,000. He also notified the board and congratulated Coach Terry Laube on being selected for entry in the Wisconsin High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Coach Laube will be inducted at a banquet ceremony in March of 2019.
Finally, during the communications portion of the meeting, Board Vice President, Rick Eloranta read a thank you note from Ashley Amacher for sponsoring her trip to the National FBLA Convention, where she competed in the Introduction to Business category.
