Friday, July 13th, 2018 -- 10:13 AM
(WDLB) -Wood County has put the wraps on its version of the state’s largest outdoor farm show. The annual Farm Technology Days ended today/yesterday just outside Marshfield, hosted by D& B Sternweis Farms, Weber’s Farm Store and Heiman Holsteins. Executive Committee Chairman Dennis Bangart said the three-day show enjoyed great weather, great crowds, great exhibitors and great volunteers.
Except for a few brief showers on Thursday morning, the show was rain-free, and Bangart says that forecast drove some big numbers in terms of the crowds.
Even though final figures aren’t in yet, Matt McClean from Marshfield’s Convention and Visitors Bureau already knows the show is going to have a huge economic impact on the community.
Bangart says this year’s Farm Tech Days showed off the diversity of Wood County agriculture, from farming and dairy processing in the north, to cranberry production in the south. Green Bay Packer linebacker Vince Biegel highlighted cranberries during a Thursday presentation and question-and-answer session in the Future Generations Youth Area.
Biegel talked about growing up on his family’s cranberry business in the Wisconsin Rapids area. He also spent more than an hour signing autographs and posing for pictures with Badger and Packer fans of all ages. JoEllen Heiman of Weber’s Farm Store had a great time as a co-host.
The annual farm technology show moves on to Jefferson County next year, and Eau Claire County the year after that.
