Merrillan Man Sentenced for Possession

-A Merrillan man arrested after drugs were found in his vehicle was sentenced in Jackson County Court on Monday.According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, in November of last year, they received a report of suspicious activity in the Village of Hixton. When deputies responded, they made contact with Nickolas Peterson. A K9 unit located two ounces of suspected marijuana and more than five grams of suspected methamphetamine. The deputies also said the items were individually packaged and kept with other paraphernalia consistent with drug sales.
Peterson was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of amphetamine. A charge of possession with intent, THC was dismissed, but read in. Peterson was sentenced to 2 years’ probation and 100 hours of community service.
