Sternweis Family Ready for Farm Technology Days

(WDLB) -Wisconsin’s Farm Technology Days is here, and Daryl Sternweis will be showing off his dairy operation this week at his Wood County farm."Some of the newest technology that's out there as far as dairy standards go as far as cow comfort, cow handling. It's one of the things that we're very passionate about. It's very important to us for cow comfort and taking it easy with our cows. We take care of our cows better we take care of ourselves. Everything down to the balance ration to where they lay to make sure it's dry. My wife Brenda's motto is 'if you don't want to lay there, the cow don't want to lay there,' so it better be dry and clean."
The Sternweis farm on display at this week’s show dates back to 1877.
"Started out with 40 acres and had 1 acre cleared. So, they had 1 acre of clear land. They lived in a one room log hut and that's where they got it started and it started from there."
The Sternweis family is milking 410 cows right now, with 12-hundred supporting acres. Daryl and Brenda have their son Justin and daughter Heather working with the farm, which is supporting four different Sternweis families, including Daryl’s parents. Daryl, his wife Brenda and their children are one of several host families for Farm Tech Days just outside Marshfield this week. The others include the Heiman and Weber families from Weber’s Farm Store and Heiman Holsteins.
And Heather Sternweis recently married Josh Heiman, and we’re told they’re already expecting the “sixth generation” real soon. Farm Technology Days runs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday just southwest of Marshfield off Highway “H”. Visit wifarmtechnologydays.com for more information.
