Large Animal Tracks Found Near Neillsville Confirmed as Cougar

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -State wildlife experts say that large animal tracks that were discovered about a month ago northwest of Neillsville belong to a cougar. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources confirmed last week that track impressions left in soft sand in early June were left by at least one cougar. It is not known if the animal is the same one that appeared on a trail camera photo by Neillsville last August. Biologists encourage people to contact their agency if they have evidence of a cougar.
Recent cougar sightings are likely young males dispersing through Wisconsin from established populations in western states.
