2018 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days Begins Tuesday

Friday, July 6th, 2018 -- 9:11 AM

(WDLB) -Wood County is hosting Wisconsin’s largest outdoor farm show next week.

Farm Technology Days runs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday southwest of Marshfield, just outside the city limits. Executive Committee Chairman Dennis Bangart says Wisconsin is the only state in the country that has a farm show that moves every year.

Dennis: "The ones that have permanent sites have a lot less planning, a lot less volunteers and a lot less of the capital input into it. But the beauty of it is, and the positive story to talk about, it's kind of the big 'to do' of the summer."

Green Bay Packer linebacker and Wood County native Vince Biegel will visit the show on Thursday to talk about growing up on his family’s cranberry marsh in the Wisconsin Rapids area.

Vince: "Being able to go to Farm Tech Days in Marshfield is important because I want to be able to talk to the kids about working hard and growing up on a farm. Sometimes, growing up on a farm isn't necessarily the coolest thing and it's hard work. It's humbling, but those types of values that you learn doing that stuff pay off, not just in youth, but the rest of your life. That's why it's important for me to be there in order to tell them that what they're doing is cool and it's going to pay off."

Bangart says the show revolves around education. But he says it’s really a family-oriented community event.

Dennis: "The name is Farm Technology Days, but, at the end of the day, planning, volunteers and the community, the people in the community, they have really done this for the betterment in the future of the people in the surrounding area. It's just a happy time to walk up in down the streets, enjoy some food and look at some really cool stuff."

Wisconsin’s 71st “Alice in Dairyland” Kaitlyn Riley will be there all three days. There’s also a national Oliver Tractor Show, with over 300 Oliver tractors on display all three days. The neighboring Heiman and Sternweis families are hosting this year’s show, which runs next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Admission is eight-dollars. Children under 12 are admitted for free. Visit wifarmtechnologydays.com for more information.
