-The Clark County Tourism Committee heard from Jeff Anderson with the Wisconsin Department of Tourism at their meeting on Wednesday.Jeff went over some of Clark County’s numbers in regards to the county’s impact on tourism overall. Total business sales in Clark County for 2017 was $27.6 million. That was a .53% decrease from 2016, but Jeff said that was surprising as the county has experienced steady growth the past seven years, so a decrease isn’t surprising. 346 jobs with a total personal income of $6.5 million were supported by visitors to Clark County last year. Visitors to Clark County generated $2.9 million in state and local taxes during 2017. And in 2017, Clark County saw a 3.25% decrease in direct visitor spending. But, again, Jeff said that wasn’t uncommon.
Tourism in general plays an important role in Wisconsin’s economy. Tourism had a $20.6 billion impact on the state’s economy in 2017, up $631 million, or 3.2%, from $20 billion in 2016. Visitor growth topped 110 million in 2017 and tourism directly and indirectly supports 195,255 jobs.
