-The Clark County Tourism Committee heard an update on their many projects at their meeting on Wednesday. The Barns of Clark County Project is progressing nicely. With this project, people will be able to go online and view all of Clark County’s barns. A demo of the program will be available during the 2018 Farm Tech Days, with final rollout expected by the end of this year. The Ghost Towns of Clark County are being mapped in a similar way. The committee is just working on getting all of them located. The Tourism Committee also saw a great response with their City Wide Garage Sales and County Dairy Breakfast flyers. When shared on Facebook, they saw over 40,000 responses/views/shares. The brochures for the Fall Harvest Moon Tour are ready, so they will be available for people to take at Farm Tech Days. It was also mentioned that the Christmas Marketing project has been pushed into 2019, but will continued to be worked on. Finally, they reviewed some numbers for Clark County. Clark County had an unemployment rate of 3% for April of 2018 and saw an increase in the money brought in from the Sales Tax. For April 2018, they saw $185,553.03 brought in compared to April of 2017’s $167,038.83.
The committee discussed the 2018 Farm Technology Days and the Community Marketing material as the two are related. Clark County will have a big presence at Farm Technology Days as its right next door in Wood County this year. Each community will have a space to showcase themselves at the event. Also, businesses and groups will have a space as well. The CCEDC is working on the final preparations for that. Finally, they had a long discussion about The Highground’s Yellow Ribbon Campaign coming up in December. This is a county wide initiative that will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of The Highground and the “Fragments” Vietnam Memorial. The county will be adorned with Yellow Ribbons to thank the Vietnam Veterans and give them the “Welcome Home” they deserve.
