Neillsville City Council Discusses Zoning Amendment

Friday, June 15th, 2018 -- 9:02 AM

-The Neillsville City Council discussed a zoning amendment at their meeting on Tuesday.

During a Planning Commission Meeting held on June 11th, two Neillsville residents came before the commission asking to rezone a plot of land, formerly known at the Luedtke Floral Property at 513 W. Fifth Street, from residential to commercial. Initially, the residents had planned to construct either a duplex or single family homes on that property. However, as there was no sewer and water to that property, the project would have cost an additional $15,000. Instead, after doing research and finding the need was there, the residents decided to build a storage facility on the property. So, they approached the Planning Commission, which approved the zoning amendment.

However, during the regular Common Council Meeting, a Public Hearing was held on the amendment and those that live in the neighborhood made it very clear they were not in favor of the storage units. They would prefer that homes/apartments/duplex be built in that space. However, all this was rendered pointless as the city currently has an ordinance that states storage facilities cannot be built in commercial properties. So, the amendment was denied.
