Marshfield School Board Discusses Wages

(WDLB) -A number of Marshfield School District employees are getting pay raises. The Board of Education last night signed off on the increases, which Board member Amber Kiggens-Leifheit said amounted to nearly across-the-board increases of two-point-eight percent--depending on where employees were in terms of their rank or seniority.
"So employees that are in different categories and, if they fall within what is considered the industry standard for their classification, all support staff would get 2.8% and that's what are professional staff received. If they're below what the wage survey says they should be at, they move across the grid one square. We're trying to help them move up to that bottom level. We're trying to move our wages so they are appropriate for the industry and so we don't loose employees because others in this competitive economy could attract them. Employees that are in the top and beyond the top part of the wage range would get a one time stipend. These employees are long term employees in most cases."
Eight district-level staff members are getting similar increases, as are members of the district's administrative team. Also last night, the School Board accepted the resignations of a number of teachers, support staff and others who are leaving the district. That list included Assistant Middle School Principal and former head boys' basketball coach Craig Michaelis--who we're told is taking a K-thru-8 Principal job in the Thorp School District.
Also on the resignation list was Lisa Carlson, an English teacher at the middle school, and Jackson Hein--a current high school health and phy-ed teacher and immediate past head wrestling coach. Hein is returning to his alma mater Wausau West. Also leaving is Barb Wilson, the district's current Human Resources Director--who was instrumental in the process of hiring a new Superintendent. That individual--Ryan Christianson--will start his new duties next month.
