Former Wisconsin Governor Martin Schreiber Speaking in Granton this Thursday
Tuesday, June 12th, 2018 -- 9:02 AM
-Former Governor of Wisconsin Martin Schreiber will be in Granton on to talk about his book My Two Elaines and the continued fight against Alzheimer’s.Marty will be in Granton on Thursday, June 14th at the Community Center at 2pm.
Martin gave a brief background about the book.
"Well, it was about 14 years ago when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. And what I began to understand was that this person with Alzheimer's was becoming a very different person than the person I married and loved and had children with. And so, I just felt it was very important for caregivers to understand that there are two people and the goal is to help caregivers of Alzheimer's, or any kind of patient, to help caregivers learn, cope and survive."
Martin also talked about who should come to the event and what, he hopes, people will take away from it.
"I think anybody and everybody should come, but more particularly if you've been touched by this disease. This disease is almost at an epidemic proportions. It's the most costly disease, it's the most deadly disease, it's the disease that takes away so much from caregivers and so, if there's one thing worse than Alzheimer's, it's the ignorance of the disease. And so part of what I want to do, is to help people understand, employers understand, the medic profession understand, lawyers and financial advisors understand, what the life of a person is like with Alzheimer's and what the life of a person is as a caregiver."
Once again, Marty will be in Granton on Thursday, June 14th at the Community Center at 2pm.
