-Colby’s Rural Arts Museum is ready to begin construction on a new project. After several years of preparation, the museum will begin construction on their barn project, which will significantly increase both its display and storage capabilities. The barn will be a 56’ X 30’ gabled roof structure, 21’ high with a 56’ X 12’ porch for display of larger pieces of farm equipment and lumbering equipment. It will be oriented East-West and 12’ doors on the west end to permit their largest items to be easily moved in or out as needed. There will also be a Dutch Door entrance on the south side of the building. The interior will be lighted, but not heated and a 30’ X 12’ loft will be used for storage.
At this time, the museum has $30,000 available for the work. They already have contracts for excavation and concrete work at a cost of $13,000, leaving them $17,000 for the rest of the work. The cost of materials and putting up the barn is estimated at $34,000 leaving them well short of what they need. They hope to raise the rest of the money through donations or a loan if necessary.
