Jackson County Task Force Working on Childcare Needs
Monday, June 4th, 2018 -- 7:59 AM
-A task force, established by the Jackson County Economic Development Committee, evaluating childcare needs in Jackson County is launching a survey to gauge the issues families face. The survey is available now through June 14th on the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce's website at www.blackrivercountry.net and will ask area employees who are parents to provide their input through a series of questions. The JC Childcare Task Force has been meeting to share concerns and look for solutions as the county continues to grapple with a lack of adequate and available childcare. Some families pay up to $1,000 per month for daycare, according to discussion at task force meetings. The survey's questions will cover what childcare options parents currently utilize, whether parents feel their children receive a balance of learning and recreational activities at their provider and if childcare arrangements have ever interfered with the parent's employment.
In addition, the survey addresses the time spent dedicated to arranging childcare, how far a family travels to get childcare and whether a family prefers a center or in-home options, among other topics and issues. Working parents who live in Jackson County are encouraged to take the survey and complete it by June 14.
