-The Neillsville City Council discussed a vicious dog determination at their meeting on Tuesday.Last month, the Neillsville Police Department received a report of a dog bite that occurred at a residence on Johnson Street. This was the third complaint the department received regarding the same dog biting people. Two other bites occurred in October and November of 2015. Under the city’s vicious dog ordinance, after 3 bites, the Neillsville Police Chief will then make the determination if a dog is vicious. On May 16th, the chief did determine this dog to be vicious. At the point, the dog owner has two options, they can remove the dog within 5 days or they can request the council review the determination. The owner of the dog appeared before the council on Tuesday to ask them to reconsider the determination. However, they council followed the chief’s recommendation and told the resident the dog must be removed from the city.
After the meeting, the chief met with the resident and said they have until May 29th to remove the dog. He also warned them not to try and hide the dog in the city because the resulting fine could cost them over $700. They agreed to remove the dog. The council also discussed several other items at the meeting including some part time summer employment, the appropriation of various funds and a request to use some space in the Town Square parking lot.
