(WDLB) Six people, including a south Wood County resident, are facing charges after they were caught trying to steal guns and ammunition, then leading police on a high-speed chase through parts of a campground.
According to WDLB, the incident occurred last Saturday afternoon in the Adams County town of Quincy, when deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress.
When officers arrived on scene, the suspects took off in a white Ford Edge SUV, ultimately leading deputies into the camping area of Castle Rock County Park. The suspect’s vehicle eventually became disabled, and four suspects were detained.
The driver was found walking away, and another suspect was pointed out by campers. An investigation revealed a firearm and ammunition were taken during the burglary, then thrown from the vehicle during the chase. The stolen items were recovered, and the suspect vehicle was impounded.
The investigation revealed the victim knew one of the burglary suspects. All six suspects, including 27-year-old Benjamin Hopinkah of Wisconsin Rapids, and 23-year-old Erika Houghton and 24-year-old Evelyn Funmaker of Wisconsin Dells, are facing charges of armed burglary and criminal damage to property.
27-year-old Jamieson Patterson of Lake Delton is also facing charges of fleeing an officer, recklessly endangering safety, resisting arrest and three counts of bail jumping. 24-year-old Byron Thundercloud of Baraboo is also facing a bail-jumping charge.
30-year-old Ariana Cloud of Lake Delton is also facing a charge of resisting arrest. The Adams County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the city of Adams Police Department and the D-N-R.
