Clark County Fairgrounds' Strategic Plan, Part 10
Friday, May 18th, 2018 -- 10:58 AM
-Several Clark County departments recently completed a strategic plan for the Clark County Fairgrounds. The purpose of the plan is to provide a guide for future projects at the Clark County Fairgrounds. I spoke with Rick Dailey, the Forestry and Parks Department Administrator, and Melissa Kono, the CNRED Agent for Clark County, and Melissa explained how this strategic plan can even help with safety issues at the fair.
"We also talked about safety issues at the fair. For example, right now, during the market sale, the pigs are brought in from the Swine Barn, which is across this very busy walkway at the fair, as are the beef. Now, that's maybe not the safest thing to be doing, to be bringing those animals across a pedestrian area during a time that's probably pretty stressful for those animals anyway."
"So, we talked about safety and how maybe the ideal would be to have a building, or show arena, in the middle of these barns and we could more safely transport animals versus walking them through a crowded fair. It's very stressful for them and dangerous for the people at the fair. Especially children."
"And we also talked about how to make the fair more of an event. So, there's green space and places to sit and eat and enjoy the fair and listen to music. The fair is just two different sides right now and looking at how to connect the two sides and increase the traffic flow. We discussed how we would like the future of the fair to look like and how the future of the fairgrounds could help that."
Coming up on Monday, to end our interview, Rick reiterated a big item that came out of the Master Planning Workshop that was held in regards to the fairgrounds.
