Clark County Fairgrounds' Strategic Plan, Part 9

Thursday, May 17th, 2018 -- 11:22 AM

-Several Clark County departments recently completed a strategic plan for the Clark County Fairgrounds.

The purpose of the plan is to provide a guide for future projects at the Clark County Fairgrounds. I spoke with Rick Dailey, the Forestry and Parks Department Administrator, and Melissa Kono, the CNRED Agent for Clark County, and Melissa talked two specialist that worked with the county to help plan the layout of the fairgrounds for the strategic plan.

"Last summer, I asked two state specialists that I work with in Extension. One is a planning professor at UW-River Falls and the other is a landscape design professor at UW-Stevens Point to help with planning the layout of the fairgrounds and use of space. And so they developed a workshop and they came to the fairgrounds. And we asked members of Rick's committee, members of my committee, fairboard members, Wayne Hendrickson, the 4-H educator Chris Holler, I was there, Rick and the fairgrounds supervisor was there."

"And we looked at maps and talked about how events happen at the fair and events that happen other times during the year too and how we utilize that space and maybe how that space could be better utilized. So, whether it's moving the Listeman Band Shell, for example or a lot of this talk about the fairgrounds revolves around the Swine Barn. It floods often, it's over crowd. That's seems to be where a lot of the conversation hangs on, is what to do with that barn."

Coming up on Friday, Melissa will explain how this strategic plan can even help with safety issues at the fair.
