Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center Celebrates Remodel and Expansion with a Groundbreaking

Monday, May 14th, 2018 -- 12:14 PM

-The Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center celebrated their upcoming remodel and expansion with a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday.

Jane Schmitz led a short program talking about the history of the facility, being built in 1922. They’ve changed names 5 times in those almost 95 years. The type of care they’ve provided has evolved over the years as well, from being the Clark County Insane Asylum when they first opened, to providing care, daycare, rehabilitation services and more today. They may be located in Clark County, but the facility serves 32 of Wisconsin’s counties. This project really began four years ago when the county Finance Committee wanted the facility to create a five year plan and become financially viable. Still, the project did not get off the ground easily. After the plan was completed, a resolution was brought before the county board 4 times to approve this project, so the facility could become a financially viable entity. After the 4th time, the board approved the resolution. Jane explained the basic work that will be done.

"The purpose of the project is to start to update our current building, along with developing a new wing, which will allow us to create more private rooms and more private bathrooms for all of our residents, along with investing in the future of our building, which is very, very important."

"The last time our building was updated is 1980. We have a beautiful, old building, but, like with anything, it ages and it needs to be kept up and needs to continue to move forward. So, today we are breaking ground for a 32 bed unit with private rooms and private baths, along with a new rehabilitation and therapy area. This will allow us to move 32 of our current residents to the new area and there will be 32 additional private rooms in the existing building at that time."

Those in attendance also heard from Chuck Rueth, the head of the Finance Committee, the Medical Director at the facility, Representative of the 68th District Kathy Bernier and Representative of the 69th District Bob Kulp. Some other work includes a new entrance, updated kitchen areas, updated living areas and more.
