Mother's Day Tradition Continued this Weekend in Marshfield

Monday, May 14th, 2018 -- 8:01 AM

(WDLB) -A Mother’s Day weekend tradition continued over the weekend in Marshfield, but with a different venue, a different name, and a different day.

What had been an annual tradition hosted for more than 50 years on Mother's Day by the New Visions Art Gallery changed hands this year, as the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry took over the event, moved it to Saturday and renamed it "Art on the Avenue". MACCI Program Director Debbie Bauer said the move coincided with the third annual Downtown Wine Walk put on by the Marshfield Area United Way. This year's 55th annual event was held at the Holiday Inn Convention Center, and featured 47 artists, including local metal sculptor Daniel Vidaillet of Marshfield. Formerly known as Silverfolk, Dan now calls his full-time business Vidaillet Sculptures. He started as a part-time sculptor four years ago, but made it his full-time job two years ago.

Vidaillet is a Marshfield High School graduate, and still lives in Marshfield. The majority of his shows these days are done in Chicago and Detroit. After decades at Marshfield High School, the 2017 show had moved to the Central Wisconsin State Fairgrounds. And while the number of artists was cut nearly in half, Bauer said this year's show was a huge success. The 2019 Art Fair is already set for Saturday, May 11th downtown.
