Clark County Fairgrounds' Strategic Plan, Part 3
Wednesday, May 9th, 2018 -- 11:18 AM
-Several Clark County departments recently completed a strategic plan for the Clark County Fairgrounds. The purpose of the plan is to provide a guide for future projects at the Clark County Fairgrounds. I spoke with Rick Dailey, the Forestry and Parks Department Administrator, and Melissa Kono, the CNRED Agent for Clark County, and Rick explained some of the challenges of bringing new events to the fairgrounds and Melissa explained some of the advantages of having this plan.
Rick: "One of the challenges of bringing in those other events is the condition of the current facilities up there. It's very important that we upgrade the facilities, improve the conditions and bring in other events."
Melissa: "The important part of having the strategic plan is taking a step back and looking at how these buildings and facilities can be best utilized instead of just putting band aids on things. If one building is falling into disrepair, instead of slapping a quick fix on it, we can step back, look at it, and the fairgrounds as a whole and how we can make it work best. Maybe the best option isn't repairing this one part of a building. Maybe it's reorganizing building, moving buildings, removing buildings that are aging or even building new facilities. And that would help us attract other events instead of just the county fair."
Coming up on Thursday, Rick will talk about some of the results already seen because of the strategic plan.
