Clark County Fairgrounds' Strategic Plan, Part 2
Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 -- 11:25 AM
-Several Clark County departments recently completed a strategic plan for the Clark County Fairgrounds. The purpose of the plan is to provide a guide for future projects at the Clark County Fairgrounds. I spoke with Rick Dailey, the Forestry and Parks Department Administrator, and Melissa Kono, the CNRED Agent for Clark County, and they talked about how the plan got started. Melissa explained the Fair Visioning Session that was held when the plan was first started.
"The Fair Visioning Session was between Forestry, Fairgrounds, Extension and the Fairboard, just to talk about our respective roles in the fair and responsibilities of each group. Then last summer, we asked some of those same members, that also included some people heavily involved in the fair, to come up with ideas on how to improve the fair."
"That Fairgrounds Visioning Session that started it all was very eye opening and from that session, some different marketing techniques came forward. And then just looking at the fairgrounds as multi-faceted and how we can have other events there besides the fair."
"Because I think what's important to note is that the fairgrounds is very costly to maintain. And if the only event that's there all year is the fair, the cost benefit of that isn't there to have this space underutilized. There could be some more potential there."
Coming up on Wednesday, Rick will explain some of the challenges of bringing new event to the Clark County Fairgrounds.
