Familiar Scams Making the Rounds in Marshfield

-The City of Marshfield has been hit with some familiar scams. One is a popular computer scam that seems to primarily affect Yahoo users. As you’re searching Yahoo, an official and legitimate looking computer error message will pop up asking you to call an 800 number. They will tell you to go to a website and download a program that allows the scammers to take over your computer. At that point, they’ll continue showing you various error messages and asking you for more and more money to fix the problem. If you don’t call the number, you’ll be okay, but once you call and download the program, there’s little you can do. Other scams that are making the rounds include people coming to your door and asking for money.
The Marshfield Police Department has warned residents about two people, Amy Hinojosa and Michael Tyolt, who are coming around and asking for money for various reasons including gas money, money for food for their kids or even prescription pills. The department has warned them that if they are caught in the scam, they will be arrested. Also, people have reported receiving calls from people claiming to be from Marshfield Utilities asking for their banking information, stating that it’s not update in their system. Marshfield Utilities will not do that. If you receive this call, you should hang up and call the Marshfield Police Department.
