Marshfield Continues to Discuss Communications Coordinator Position

(WDLB) -Marshfield officials continue to explore the possibility of adding a Communications Coordinator position at City Hall. The city's Finance, Budget and Personnel Committee had the issue on its agenda last night, after the full Common Council voted in January in favor of directing city staff to draft a job description. Rebecca Spiros campaigned against the position when she ran for Mayor earlier this year, and she's still against it--siting a lack of knowing what the position would cost in total, how it would effect the current operations of the public access television operations and how many additional staff members might be needed to operate M-C-T-V. And since it sounds as though the public access television operations would fall under the Communications Coordinator's department, city staff will also continue to evaluate the scope of potential equipment, staffing, and facility needs for that operation--which is currently run by Tri-Media, which has a contract with the city to do so.
That contract expires in March of next year. Barg said he would have more information for the committee in June. The concept of the position came from discussions by a special communications team which was appointed by former Mayor Chris Meyer last year to look at ways the city is communicating to the public, and ways to improve that moving forward.
