Tax Deadline Just a Few Days Away, File for an Extension with the IRS
Friday, April 13th, 2018 -- 7:58 AM
-The income tax filing deadline is less than a few days away, and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue is reminding taxpayers to file their income tax returns by the deadline.Returns must be received or postmarked by midnight on Tuesday, April 17. The deadline is extended this year because April 15 is a Sunday, and Monday, April 16 is Emancipation Day, a holiday in Washington, D.C. The Department of Revenue is sharing several tips to make the filing process easier including use their self-service options, pay your taxes online and file an extension request with the IRS if you won't make the April 17 deadline. At this point, you’ll need to file for an extension rather than rush through your taxes.
They also suggest you call customer service during off-peak hours at 608.266.2772 if you need help, download the WI Revenue app for your smart device and they want to remind you that the DOR will not contact you by telephone or email regarding your income tax return. If someone does claim to be from the Department of Revenue asking about your return, it’s most likely a scam.
