Marshfield Aldermen Vote No Again on PDC Funding

(WDLB) -For the second time in as many weeks, Marshfield aldermen have said "no" to funding for the city's domestic abuse organization. The Common Council voted 7-to-3 last night against donating up to 40-thousand dollars to the Personal Development Center, which had asked the city March 27th for 80-thousand dollars to cover the costs associated with the acquisition of the former home of Marshfield's now-defunct transitional homeless shelter. After rescinding its original denial of that amount, the council last night voted down a proposal by Alderman Ed Wagner to match--dollar for dollar--any amount of fundraising by P-D-C, up to the 40-thousand dollar level, or half the amount originally requested. The Council also rejected Wagner's idea to create a task force to consider a formal process for handling funding requests from non-profit organizations.
Mayor Chris Meyer suggested the city buy the property for P-D-C, then lease it back to them--much like it does now for the hockey building at the Fairgrounds. And like he did two weeks ago, the Mayor urged the Council to do something for P-D-C. Meyer wrapped up his tenure last night as the longest-serving Mayor in Marshfield history. Meyer will hand the gavel over to Bob McManus next Tuesday. McManus defeated current District-Six Alderman Tom Witzel in last Tuesday's election.
