Former Marshfield Police Chief to Stand Trial in December

Friday, June 11th, 2021 -- 12:00 PM

(Hub City Times) Marshfield’s former police chief has been ordered to stand trial on two misdemeanor charges connected with unwanted sexual advances toward a fellow officer.

According to the Hub City Times, Portage County Judge Thomas Eagon on June 9 ordered that Rick Gramza face a jury trial on Wood County charges of fourth-degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct. The trial was scheduled for Dec. 15-17.

Judge Eagon earlier this year determined there was not enough evidence to proceed with three felony charges of misconduct in public office with use of excessive authority.

Court records also indicate Gramza is no longer living in Marshfield. His current address is listed in Walworth County. The alleged victim in the case, a female officer with the Marshfield Police Department, told an outside investigator the sexual contact with Gramza went back to 2015.

The 48-year-old Gramza has acknowledged a sexual relationship with the woman, but told investigators the contact was consensual. The city reached a separation agreement with Gramza back in early March, when he officially resigned from his position.

Gramza remains free on a $10,000 signature bond. A final pre-trial conference has been scheduled for Nov. 15.
