(AP) -Though consumers are still finding reasonable prices for the groceries they buy at the supermarket, there was a slight increase on the typical family's food bill going into this year. The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation released its latest Marketbasket Survey on Tuesday, which showed that the average price of 16 basic food items in 32 communities totaled $50.14 during the first three months of 2018. That was up just 48-cents from the previous report issued last October, and $1.16 more than year-ago price averages. WFBF Spokesperson Amy Eckelberg says egg prices saw the largest increase in price, which shoppers will likely notice going into the Easter holiday.
She adds that boneless chicken breast, ground chuck, Russert potatoes and Cheerios were also up; while apples, bagged salad, cheddar cheese, bacon, deli ham and milk prices went down. Meanwhile, Wisconsin's Marketbasket report was about 91-cents less than the American Farm Bureau Federation's national survey of the same items. AFBF's report rang in at $51.05. Communities surveyed include Eau Claire, Marshfield, Medford and more.
