Informational Meeting on Agreement Between Memorial Medical Center and Marshfield Clinic Health System, Part 5

-Memorial Medical Center held another informal meeting last week to provide more information on their recent deal with Marshfield Clinic Health System.Ryan Neville, CEO and President of MMC, explained how the initial approach of sharing more programs with Marshfield Clinic evolved into merging the two facilities.
"We approached Marshfield Clinic and said we're looking to fill a gap with some extra revenue opportunity. We're looking at maybe a surgical/joint operating agreement. Maybe a joint venture on women's health, something around a program that we could co-invest into that would help us fill that gap. They said, absolutely. We like working with you. We want to work closely with you. Let's see what we can figure out."
"Now this is right before the new year, December 26th/27th when we had that conversation. We followed up with them the next day and said we have an option here. What if we loan you the $40 million and we became one organization, meaning you become part of the Marshfield Clinic Health System?"
"We said, well, we didn't come asking for that. We didn't come looking for an affiliation. We really came to see us take another step closer in this relationship, so that we can build the facility that this community needs. However, let us take a look at this and see how it goes."
Coming up on Wednesday, Ryan will explain some of the numbers that helped them realize the merger would be beneficial.
