Owen-Withee School Board Discusses Building Security

-The Owen-Withee School Board discussed building security at their meeting last week.District Administrator Bob Houts, Elementary Principal Lance Batchelor and Middle/High School Dean of Student Julie Van Ark led the board through a discussion of things the district has done to help improve school safety. The Emergency Management Plan was discussed along with activities undertaken. Professional development for staff, lockdown drills and connections and cooperation with police/sheriff’s departments were discussed. The board also heard the Administrators’ Reports. Elementary Principal Lance Batchelor reported on Child Development Days held on March 7th. 20 students registered that day with 7 students expected, but did not show and with 2 students already enrolled in the program.
The annual “Read In” was held on March 2nd in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America Week. Preparation for the June session of Summer School is underway. A big thank you was given to Forward Financial for the $275 donation to the “Kid’s Club.” The money has been earmarked to purchase STEM resources for the program.
