Granton Village Board Discusses Sidewalks
Friday, March 16th, 2018 -- 10:29 AM
-The Granton Village Board discussed the village sidewalks at their meeting on Wednesday.According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the board members took a tour of the business district and reviewed the sidewalks in the village’s business district. The sidewalks in many areas are in need of repair. The ramp into the village office is crumbling, the steps into the apartment need to be replaced and have a hand rail installed and many locations in the business district need to be updated. The village will get quotes to repair or replace the sidewalks and present them at the next board meeting. Also, the village discussed the dissolved oxygen meter. The village paid $12,000 for electricity at the waste water plant last year. A great deal of time was spent researching waste water upgrades that may save the village money in electric costs. While there are a few options, most are expensive with little pay back. The village began turning the blowers off in the evening hours but they cannot monitor the rates or the sludge levels in the ponds. The engineers also advised that while doing this would save electricity, it would also disrupt the constant integration of oxygen into the ponds that is needed for break down and thus advised against it.
It was stated it may be possible to slow the motors down so they are not running at full speed. This will be researched further. The board discussed the need for the waste water department to own a DO and Sludge meters. The cost for the DO Meter is $541 and the 12 foot cable is needed for hook up is and additional $251. A Sludge Judge is $100. After discussion, a motion to purchase a DO Meter for $541, the 12 foot cable for $251 and a sludge judge for $100 was made and approved.
