-The Owen-Withee School Board discussed the Medford Legislative Meeting at their meeting on Monday.Due to inclement weather on Monday, March 5th the Legislative Meeting at Medford was canceled and will not be rescheduled this year. Next year’s event will take place on Monday, March 4th. The board also heard an update on the Low Spending Revenue Limit and Sparcity Aid. District Administrator Bob Houts notified the board that Assembly Bill 835 was signed into law by the Governor that morning. AB 835 allows any district that spends less than $9400 per student to raise their amount to $9400 in 2018 and increase by $100 per student each year after that until their low revenue ceiling reaches $9800.
Currently, OW spends $9218 per student. Mr. Houts notified the board that the one drawback is that, if a district holds a revenue limit referendum which fails, the district will be locked at its low revenue ceiling for 3 years. Owen-Withee will need to go to referendum in 2019 to renew the $300,000 per year override that was passed in 2014. Also included the bill is an increase in the sparcity aid which the District is eligible for. This aid will increase from $300 to $400 in the 2018-19 school year.
