Memorial Medical Center's CEO on Rural Health, Part 8
Wednesday, February 28th, 2018 -- 11:49 AM
-President and CEO of Memorial Medical Center, Ryan Neville, spoke with Dr. Bill Auxier of Rural Health Leadership Radio on the importance of rural health.Ryan shared some lessons learned stories from his time as CEO of MMC.
"To name a few, I think I've made some very poor decisions by not even looking for the right data. When I talk about some of these examples, I didn't use data. We have more data available to us then we realize. Sometimes it's clunky to get. However, as I look back, I didn't have the right information that I should have requested."
"So, when we talk about direct contracts with employers, not lining up our documentation with their benefits. So, people ended up coming in getting care they thought was going to be a $10 copay and end up with a $300 bill because our providers didn't understand the in-and-out of that visit and our patients didn't either."
"So, a lot of creating the structure and the standardization before we're ready, when we want to implement very quickly, that can be a disaster."
Coming up on Thursday, Ryan will offer some tips for other rural hospitals.
