Friday, February 23rd, 2018 -- 8:10 AM
-The Granton Village Board held a Special Economic Development meeting after their regular meeting last week.According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the purpose of the special meeting was to discuss ideas to improve Granton’s economic standing and included community members, school board members and more. During the meeting, the village identified some opportunities. First, the Village created a TIF district in Oct of 2008. The TIF began generating money in 2017. The village is estimating and income of $7000 for the next 10 years. There are also several grants available to assist with infrastructures, low income housing and sidewalks. Two possible plans were discussed.
The first was focus on Granton and what we currently have which includes getting information to residents about low income housing loans, apply for the safe walk to school grant to improve the sidewalks, continue to upgrade the ballpark and campground, get signage on the road front identifying Granton and more. The second was focus their efforts on growth, which includes researching land available, look into infrastructure grants and grants available for blight elimination. We’ll hear more on this meeting this weekend.
