-A Tomahawk man arrested near Osseo appeared in Trempealeau County Court on Wednesday.Back in January, DCI Agents and members of the Marathon County Special Investigations Unit requested assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol in stopping two vehicles suspected of transporting a large amount of illegal contraband. Four units from the State Patrol along with units from Osseo PD, Trempealeau County S.O. and Strum PD assisted DCI and the Marathon County Special Investigations Unit in attempting to stop both suspect vehicles near Osseo. One suspect, Joel Helding of Tomahawk, fled westbound into Osseo and after a short pursuit he exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Troopers were able to subdue him without incident.
Approximately 290 pounds of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, three firearms & two stun guns were recovered after the pursuits. Helding is facing several possession charges and fleeing an officer. During his preliminary hearing on Wednesday, probably cause was found so his court proceedings will continue. He stood mute in court, so a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He’ll be back in court in a couple weeks.
