Memorial Medical Center's CEO on Rural Health, Part 1

Monday, February 19th, 2018 -- 1:25 PM

-President and CEO of Memorial Medical Center, Ryan Neville, spoke with Dr. Bill Auxier of Rural Health Leadership Radio on the importance of rural health.

Ryan began the interview by explaining his background and more. He then went on to explain what he enjoys about working in rural health.

"I will tell you it was the best move I've every made. And I'll give you a couple reasons why. One, your relationship to rural are very rich. You have probably close relationships with your employees. You have a direct relationship with your community as you become a community leader. You have a relationship with the regional care centers as either a leader or provider of care or coordinating care. And then also, I get that relationship with patients still, which is something that's important to me."

"So, I love rural because of the relationships that exist and a little bit of that smaller town, smaller organization feel. I also love rural health because I think a lot of individuals of rural health have a mission. They have a mission and they buy into that mission. There's a lot of complexity in rural. How we deliver care maybe has 3 or 4 more steps than bigger centers because we don't have it all. So, we've got a find a way to deliver using different partners or different technologies."

"So, it's very complex, but it's also very innovative. So, if you can deliver great care in a rural community that doesn't have resources, it's a great challenge and, a lot of time, a great victory."

Coming up on Tuesday, Ryan will briefly talk about the new facility project.
