Granton Village Board Discusses Insurance
Monday, February 19th, 2018 -- 10:16 AM
-The Granton Village Board discussed insurance in the village at their meeting last week.According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the village’s property insurance is through MPIC. The board had a question regarding the stipulation that states cosmetic damages would not be covered. A representative from Spectrum provided an outline of this bullet point and explained that this is primarily for metal roofs explaining that hail can put small dents in a roof but the roof is still functional. The insurance company has paid out thousands of dollars to hail damage and then the roofs are never repaired or replaced because it is still functional. This clause allows the company to evaluate the damages and keeps the rates low. If the damage is minimal the insurance company pays 5% of the actual cash value of the damages and will not pay to replace the entire roof.
Also, one resident requested the village remove the stumps on the village property adjacent to his. The village has several stumps to remove this spring so the village will get some quotes for next meeting and discuss further.
