City of Greenwood Reconstructing Begley Street this Summer

Tuesday, February 13th, 2018 -- 8:01 AM

-This City of Greenwood will see a substantial street reconstruction project this summer.

The city will be replacing Begley Street in Greenwood, from the blue bridge on the west end of the street, to the city limits to the east near the elementary school. The city has been looking at doing this project for several years, as was the Clark County Highway Department. Initially, they planned on repaving the road, but due to some financial assistance, they’ll be replacing utility lines under the street as well. The entire cost of the project is expected to cost around $3 million. However, the city is receiving $500,000 from a Public Block Grant and $626,000 from the DNR for the sewer work. Also, the remaining money will be borrowed from the DNR as opposed to the state and the DNR is offering an interest rate of 1%, meaning the city will save $500,000 in interest alone.

The city will be sending out bids in early March and are scheduled to begin work in mid-May, but they could start earlier. They plan on having everything completed by mid-September. They’ll do the project in two parts, the west portion first and then the east. People coming into town on G by the bridge, will be detoured on either North or South Reese Avenue.
