Marshfield Mayoral Candidates Make Their Case a Candidates' Forum
Thursday, February 8th, 2018 -- 8:00 AM
(WDLB) -The three candidates running for the Mayor's office in Marshfield made their case for the job last night.Current Common Council members Rebecca Spiros and Tom Witzel appeared with political newcomer Bob McManus at a candidates' forum held on the U-W Marshfield-Wood County campus. Mcmanus moved here six years ago from California, where he was involved in civic service. He told a near-capacity crowd he wants to continue that service--especially after watching the city's debt get higher in each of the six years he's been here. McManus has worked for the past six years as a mortgage lender at Forward Financial Bank. Spiros has been a member of the Common Council since 2013--but now has bigger goals for serving the city. Spiros is a native of Ohio, and has worked for 29 years as a nurse in various capacities. Witzel told the audience last night he's the most experienced of the three when it comes to the city, having grown up here since the early 1970's.
Witzel is the newest member of the Common Council, representing the sixth aldermanic district since August of 2016. He is a former Granton school teacher, and now works as a technology trainer for Marshfield Clinic Health System. All three candidates sighted a need for better communication by the city moving forward. The three candidates will square off in a February 20th primary. The top two vote-getters will advance to the April 3rd general election.
