Owen City Council Hears Results of Police Survey

-The Owen City Council heard the results of their police survey at their meeting last week.

A summary of the police surveys turned in at City Hall was presented along with a sheet showing any comments that were made. Over 200 surveys were turned in. Fifty-six voted to combine with Withee for a full time police department, eighty-seven voted to contract with Clark County for full coverage and fifty voted to hire one Police Chief w/coverage by the county for the remainder of the time. Discussion took place on the next steps. During the public opinion portion of the meeting, Clark County judicial candidate Lyndsey Boon-Brunette introduced herself to the council. They also approved the raises for election workers. The Chief Inspector’s wage was increased from $8.75 to $11.00 and Poll Workers’ wages were raised from $8.25 to $10.00.

Finally, the council heard the CDC’s report. Tim Swiggum reported the rail progress for Heartland has slowed down and the wetland permit will not be available until spring. Also, there is an interested party in buying the old Jim’s Café and February 5th will be the Owen-Withee Area Chamber of Commerce Annual gathering.
