Wisconsin Farmers Receive $17.80 for their Milk in December

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $17.80 per hundredweight for their milk in December.According to the latest USDA Agricultural Prices report, that was a drop of $1.20 from November's price and $1.90 less than the same time last year. The U.S. milk price for December was $17.20 per cwt, 60-cents lower than Wisconsin's price and 90-cents less than December 2017. Twenty-two of the 23 major milk producing states had a lower price when compared with November, while only Florida had an increase in price. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.46 per pound on January 30, while barrels were $1.32 per pound. The CME butter price was $2.14 per pound.
For the week ending January 20, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.52 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.42 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $2.18 per pound.
