Neillsville City Council Approves Memorial Medical Center Connecting to Sewer System
Thursday, January 25th, 2018 -- 11:12 AM
-The Neillsville City Council approved allowing Memorial Medical Center to connect to the city’s sewer system, pending an ordinance review, at their meeting on Tuesday. As a part of Memorial Medical Center’s new campus project, their selection of the location on River Avenue requires them to construct a sewer line under the Black River in order to connect to the city. Initially, MMC sought to annex the property into city limits, but discussion/concerns by the council required MMC to see if they could connect to the city sewer system without annexation. This can be done with the passing of an ordinance that contains appropriate wording. This would keep the project in the Town of Pine Valley versus annexation into the city. During a Planning Commission Meeting held on January 18th, it was decided that the city would allow this with the stipulation of the passing of an ordinance, that MMC be responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of the their line as well as the lift station.
The city also reserves the right to periodically test the strength of the waste the hospital generates. The planning commission approved the item 4-1. It was then approved during the Public Works Portion of the meeting. After a few questions and clarifications, the council approved it during the regular common council meeting.
