Wednesday, January 24th, 2018 -- 10:09 AM
-The Neillsville City Council approved a few items during their meeting on Tuesday.During the public works portion of the meeting, the council approved the Phosphorous Compliance Alternative Plan. The DNR has been working with cities for years to try and reduce the amount of Phosphorous in Wisconsin’s waters. The city of Neillsville, like many communities, sought an alternative plan to reduce phosphorous in order to alleviate the cost to the city. Neillsville was approved for a Multi-Discharge Variance.
This allows the city to pay the difference in regards to the DNR’s recommended discharge amount and how much the city actually discharges. The cost to the city was still estimated around $17,700 per year. The council approved the $3,500 contract for the plan to take effect. It was first discussed/approved during the Public Works portion of the meeting and then again during the regular common council meeting.
